Executive Summary

The Loken Foundation’s "Roxy's Paws for Purpose" initiative aims to raise awareness and promote the integration of service dogs into educational environments, specifically classrooms, to support students with disabilities. This initiative focuses on improving educational outcomes for students with diabetes and other health-related conditions by providing them with Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs) like Roxy, a Goldendoodle who supports her handler with diabetic alerts.  Our goal is to highlight the role of service dogs in classrooms, their positive impact on students’ academic performance, and the broader societal benefits of integrating service dogs into educational settings.

Objectives

- Raise Awareness: Inform the pet industry community about the growing role of service dogs in schools and the educational system.
- Showcase Service Dog Benefits: Demonstrate how service dogs, particularly Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs), support students with disabilities in the classroom.
- Build Partnerships: Foster relationships with other pet-related organizations, service dog trainers, and educational stakeholders for potential collaborations.
- Advocate for Inclusion: Promote the importance of service dog policies in schools to improve accessibility and inclusivity for students with disabilities.
- Engage New Audiences: Engage pet industry professionals who may not yet be familiar with the impact of service dogs in educational settings.
